You can download iTunes free of charge from a number of sites, including this one. iTunes enables you to browse the iTunes Music Store from where you can search for and sample songs prior to purchase, currently at 99c per song. You can also purchase entire albums. Click on the link below to download iTunes.

The songs are downloaded in AAC audio format to your PC with the M4P file extension. You can play them with the iTunes player, and if you want portable music you can only download them to an Apple iPod. However iTunes also has integrated CD burning software and can be burned to a CD, when you can play them on any MP3 player. After burning you have two file versions of the music on your computer – M4P and MP3. You can then download the MP3 file to any portable MP3 device.

What you cannot do is download AAC files from any source other than iTunes, so it is not possible to download free songs, unless given as a promotion. We do not supply download sources for software to transfer file formats other than M4P to iPods.
