You can download free movies, download free music and even download free games online from various membership sites but what exactly is downloading?
Downloading is the action of transferring a file on the internet to a device at home, such as home computer, MP3 player, etc. You have been able to download free music for some time, and while the most popular download entertainment subject is music, movies are becoming more popular, as are computer games. Software such as CD burning software, anti-spyware and adware, and virus protection can also be downloaded.
You can also download to a mobile device such as cell phone or Blackberry. Bplay is one of the world's foremost mobile shopping destination for Blackberry entertainment products, offering music, games, graphics, themes and other applications tailor made for Blackberry owners who can download them directly to their Blackberries. The only way to buy music used to be to go to the shops and buy the hardware: a record, CD, movie cassette, DVD or a games cartridge. Now, however, you can buy a wide range of music, movies and games straight from the internet and download them without having to leave the home. On some sites you can download free music, where you pay a small amount to join the site, then download free movies or download free music after that. You can download as much as you want without further charge.
is, you can pay to hear the track of your choice played directly through your computer.
You can join a peer-to-peer (p2p) membership site where you can download free movies which other members have stored on their hard drive. You can also download free movies or download free games from the same type of site. The links on the left give you more details on this.
All of these are legal, though with peer-to-peer (p2p) sites you must not download any material which is copyrighted and not licensed for sale. Read our Legal Page for more details on this.
Films
You can download free movies directly from membership sites or hire them online. Hire sites allow you unlimited views for a specified period, generally 24 hours, for a one-off payment per film.

Membership sites are better in that you have the choice of a large range of films for a monthly fee. Fees can range from 99c per month to over $2 (for UK readers this about 60p - £1.20. However, I do not recommend these. My recommendations, wherever possible, offer lifetime memberships of around $35, or £20.50. You then download free movies and download free music for the rest of your life without further charge.
You can get cheaper memberships, but the range of products available can generally be older or 'B' class movies.
We offer a movie downloads site review service, so that can check out some of the better p2p movie donwload services. Check it out here:
Movie Download Reviews
All the peer-to-peer (p2p) sites promoted on this website are legal. However, some of the files on offer may be protected by copyright and you should make sure that when you download free movies (or music) from these sites that it is not copyright protected. This, of course, applies to any site. It is you, the customer, who are responsible to ensure that what you download is legal. Although the sites themselves are legal, you must use them in a legal fashion by ensuring that the movies or music you are offered are licensed for download.
Games
Games are much the same as movies. Generally the download sites are legal, but it is up to you to decide if you download free games from a network. The only thing I can be sure of is the games these guys have are completely free and 100% legal: http:// www.liberatedgames.com
WHERE DO I DOWNLOAD?
You can download free music legally from conventional sites such as Apple i-Tunes or OD2 sites, or you can use peer-to-peer membership file sharing sites, which are also legal, to download free movies, music or games. The illegality comes from the users who download copyright protected files.
Use of the p2p sites is still the most popular way to download free movies and music, but the others are catching up. I will introduce you to the best p2p or file share sites I have found on the internet, having registered for may of the more popular ones. My recommendations are based on 'hands on' experience.

STREAMING
You may have read about streaming, but are not sure what it is. Streaming is simply listening to music or watching movies 'live' over the internet. It is not downloaded, so copyright is always protected. Some sites give a preview sample of tracks for free while other charge a small sum, 1p or 1c is common though it can be more, for listening to the sample. You can therefore hear a bit before deciding to buy. You cannot download free music from a streaming site.
NOTE: As I stated earlier, we have a special download page for a Free 14 Day Trial of Real Rhapsody: the software that provides you with a home jukebox from your own audio system.

PLAYING DOWNLOADED FILES.
The site you choose will give you instructions on how to download free movies and play the files of your choice, be they music, movies or games. With iTunes Music Store, you simply pay, then download the music into your iPod.
With songs from the new, completely legal, Napster and several other sites, including OD2 sites, you will need Microsoft Media Player. It generally comes with Windows these days but if you need it you can download the latest version on this site. You start it up and click on the file you want to play. It is very simple to use.
If you want to transfer files to portable media players, such as MP3 players, please remember that iTunes use the AAC file format which can only be played on an Apple iPod. AAC files can be converted to MP3, but there is a definite loss of quality. The main formats are described elsewhere on this website.
The p2p systems generally share MP3 music files and DivX files if you want to download free movies and download free music. There are others, but generally MP3 is used for music due to its small file size and flexibility. Here, you simply click on the files you want from those presented to you as a result of your search, they are downloaded to a folder of your choice, then click to play them through Winamp or Windows Media Player.
These are the basics of downloading. More specific information is given elsewhere on the site.
SO that's all for now. Get started on the menu to the left and find out lots more interesting information.
